Uppsala Women’s Shelter is a non-profit association, politically and religiously unaffiliated and independent of the authorities. Uppsala Women’s Shelter has been in Uppsala since 1981. We work on the basis of a feminist ethos, and our aim is to promote women’s and girls’ rights and to combat all forms of oppression of women.
Uppsala Women’s Shelter is mainly run through grants from Uppsala Municipality, the National Board of Health and Welfare, foundations and funds. We also receive funding from individual donations that contribute to our operation.
The Board of Directors comprises 5-7 female members. The association has around 35 volunteer members who work actively within the Shelter, as well as four employees who mainly work during the day. All the employees have specific expertise regarding men’s violence against women.
